Media, Kofta, Chee kofta and Iskandar; try them before leaving Turkey
What do you know about Turkish cuisine?
Do you think that their cuisine is similar to Arabic one with its tastes and recipes? Or is it similar to the European cuisine (Western cuisine)?
Or does it have a special kind of cuisines?
Turkish cuisine is one of the most diverse cuisines which it combines many qualities of Arabic, Persian, Kurdish, Indian, Armenian and Circassians cuisine. All of this back to the Ottoman Empire and its extension which is mixed and affected by many cultures in making food, so we will mention here some famous dishes:
Iskender kebab, one of the special and fatty dishes that Turk people particularly love, also it is a popular type Turkish kebab. The dish is a mixture between Shawarma with spices and tomato sauce topped with fried bread and melted sheep butter poured over it, served with yogurt. The name is taken from Master Alexander (Iskender Efendi) who lived in Turkey in the nineteenth century, and the dish has become a legacy for Alexander's descendants in Bursa. The price is between 15 to 30 TRY.
Kofta (meatball), a delicious dish that is served everywhere, sometimes it is cooked at the university housing in some cities. It consists of meatball seasoned in different ways which is similar to kebab but differ in flavor. The best places that serve this dish is Sultanahmet area.
Chee kofta, because of its name, some people think that it is a kind of meat, but it is actually vegetarian kofta, i.e. it does not contain meat, in addition, it is one of the most popular meal which is eaten by passers-by while walking, or "street food" as it is said. This meal belongs to Urfa city, and backs to the prophet Ibrahim era where it consisted of bulgur, chili and meat. While now it consists of bulgur, boiled potatoes, red pepper and hot black pepper, without adding meat since it maybe risky to eat it not cooked. The price of chee kofta is cheap that it does not exceed 10 TRY whether it is served as a normal dish or as a sandwich.
Media, or the so- called mussels, is a strange food that people who like weird food wants to try, also it is a popular food you can find on little carts while walking. The mussel is brought by fishermen from the sea, then it is washed and prepared. Sometimes, they add orange, raisins, pine, nuts and others, with a squeeze of lemon.
Actually, there are many of delicious dishes we have mentioned few of, while the rest are more tasteful. Once you visit Turkey, you should try out its varied perfect food.
