In the twenty-first century, we are conducting a wide opening to the world, so it is necessary to mention the most important countries that strive for this, which is Turkey, a constantly developing country that is heading towards modernity, investments and huge economic projects, such as Istanbul's new airport, and the extension of the land route on the Black Sea coast, and the largest currently is the Istanbul Canal project.
The Istanbul Canal project is one of the largest projects implemented by the Turkish government, as it connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara, with a length of 45 kilometers, a depth of 25 square meters, and a width of 400 meters, and aims to reduce the burden on the Bosphorus Canal, which is one of the busiest and densest corridors, and it will reduce emissions that pose a great danger to the tourist areas and monuments surrounding the region.
It is important that the Istanbul Canal will bring great financial benefit to Turkey in general and to Istanbul in particular, in terms of tourism and trade, and in terms of the many job opportunities it will provide to Turkish citizens.
Organizational chart of the area surrounding the Istanbul Canal project
Detailed information about the city to be established about the Istanbul Canal project. After the approval of the city that will be established around the Istanbul Canal project by the Turkish government and the Ministry of Environment in Turkey, we had the opportunity to know the information about this city, summarized as follows:
A large part of the agricultural land will be prepared for construction
These agricultural lands will be converted into commercial and tourism investment projects, with an area of about 40 million square meters, and will be included in the organization.
Construction of two model smart cities for housing in the Istanbul Canal project
In addition to building two smart cities in the Istanbul Canal project, in a horizontal architectural form with social facilities and green spaces, many criteria will be taken into account, such as the fact that these residential areas are low in density, so that these two smart cities do not accommodate more than 500 thousand people, with a height of each building of a maximum of 5 floors, including green spaces, commercial and tourist facilities, the coast with its facilities, health and educational centers and transportation routes.
Logistics Center
A 2 million square meter logistics center will be established near the entrance to the Istanbul Water Canal on the Black Sea coast, and it will be supported by the large shipping center to attract logistics services in Istanbul to it, and thus the area will be fully served logistically, enjoying all the various developed services from technology, to green spaces, to recreational areas.
Mega Technology Center (Technology Square)
In order to serve the entire region, to hold exhibitions and conferences, in addition to developing it in terms of technological tourism, a huge technological center will be established linked to Istanbul Airport, with an area of about 2 million square meters.
Tourism and medicine together
A huge center will be established for tourism events and the provision of medical and health services locally and internationally, including a hospital, a health guidance center, health resorts and care homes for the elderly.
Tourism & Environment
Through the establishment of several water and botanical gardens, running and cycling routes in green spaces suitable for practicing various sports, it is possible that its area is about 1.5 million square meters, and it will be close to residential investments and tourist facilities.
Despite all the features that make the Istanbul Canal project and the surrounding area an attractive center for everyone from all over the world to include many touristic, medical and residential services, it poses many risks to Turkey as a whole, as the Istanbul Canal raises concerns about its use for military purposes, through the possibility of opening the door to the presence of American warships In the Black Sea, the construction of such a mega project could threaten the ecosystem, green spaces and archaeological areas around the canal, because the drilling process would disturb the cohesion of the soil and damage the groundwater reserves, which could lead to landslides and earthquakes.
The construction of the Istanbul Canal and the surrounding area is also a concern for the Turkish government because it is a burden on the country's economy, and only Turkish citizens will bear these burdens. It needs to invest about $700 billion in infrastructure and $400 billion in projects.
Some studies have also indicated that logging in forests in the north of the Black Sea coast will reduce oxygen levels in the water and increase salinity, affecting the balance of life in the water, and negatively affecting Istanbul's air.
