Cases Lead to the Revocation of Turkish Nationality, beware of!

Revocation of Turkish citizenship

Some Arab investors who obtained Turkish citizenship through investment, bank deposit, or other legal methods have some concerns. In this article, Mersat Real Estate will discuss everything related to Turkish citizenship from A to Z, and what are the reasons for withdrawing it.

Ways to Obtain Turkish Citizenship:

There is more than one legal way to obtain Turkish citizenship, most notably:
  • Marriage to a Turkish citizen.
  • Real estate investment under special conditions.
  • Special and exceptional cases for granting Turkish citizenship.
  • Residence for the purpose of employment for five years.
These are the legal ways to obtain Turkish citizenship, you can apply for it when the required conditions are met through a series of steps and a number of required papers are completed.
 

Conditions for Obtaining Turkish Citizenship:

Obtaining Turkish citizenship through real estate investment requires the following:
  1. Your nationality must fall under the nationalities that are allowed to own a property in Turkey, where generally, the law granting Turkish citizenship by real estate investment in Turkey has included almost all nationalities, except for specific nationalities such as Armenian, Cypriot and Syrian.
  2. You must be a reasonable person and adult in order to be granted Turkish citizenship.
  3. It is not required to purchase only one property with a value of $400,000, but you can purchase more than one property in more than one Turkish district or province, provided the total value of all these properties is Four hundred thousand US dollars.
     

Reasons for the Loss of Turkish Nationality of the Original Citizen:

There are only four reasons that can lead to the loss of Turkish citizenship, and when the Turkish authorities discover the existence of one of these reasons, they refer their findings to the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, and the authority to make the final decision in this regard is up to the Turkish President, and the withdrawal of nationality becomes effective legally once the president’s decision is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey. The four reasons are:
  1. If the person has Turkish citizenship and willingly works in favour of a foreign country, and his services to that country are not compatible with the interests of Turkey, the Turkish authorities urge the person concerned to leave that job within three months. If the person concerned does not comply with the order of the authorities, he loses Turkish citizenship.
  2. If a Turkish citizen willingly works in favour of a foreign country that is officially at war with Turkey without the exclusive permission of the Turkish President, this will result in stripping that person of Turkish citizenship.
  3. If a Turkish person willingly joins the military services of a foreign country without a permission from the Turkish authorities, that person loses Turkish citizenship.
  4. If a Turkish citizen has committed the crimes stipulated in Articles 302, 309, 310, 311, 312, 313, 314, and 317 of the Turkish Penal Code (all of these crimes are included in crimes against the security of the Republic of Turkey and the constitutional order of Turkey). If this person cannot be reached because he fled Turkey to escape legal investigation and trial of the crimes he has committed, the Ministry of Justice urges that person to return to Turkey within three months, and if he does not comply with the request of the Ministry of Justice, he may lose Turkish citizenship.
 

Reasons for Withdrawing Citizenship from Naturalized People:

There is one reason to withdraw Turkish citizenship from naturalized Turkish citizens: If the Turkish authorities discover that citizenship has been obtained by false statement or by concealing basic facts that could have had an effect on obtaining citizenship, for example (bribery of senior officers to obtain exceptional citizenship, or submitting false papers when proving Turkish ancestry when applying for Turkish citizenship according to the law on granting citizenship to those who prove that they have Turkish ancestry.)
When this is suspected, the Ministry of the Interior initiates an investigation and withdraws nationality on the basis of any evidence it finds proves that suspicion.
 
     The main difference between general laws on the loss of Turkish citizenship and specific laws on the revoking of Turkish nationality is that in the latter scenario the nationality of the spouse and children is also revoked.
