53 million passengers, Istanbul International Airport ends its first year

After the end of 2019, which witnessed the closure of Ataturk International Airport and the opening of the new Istanbul International Airport, official statistics showed the results and outcome of the airport's activity during the past 2019, the results were as follows:

Passengers through Istanbul International Airport reached 52,578,000 (12,720,826 on domestic destinations, 4,012,452 on external destinations)

The average daily number of passengers travelling through Istanbul Airport was 200,000 and 1,200 aircraft.

100,000 jobs have been created within the airport and are expected to reach up to 200,000 when the entire airport is opened.

Until now, 2,000 members of the Turkish Government Security Forces (Police) and 4,090 special security forces are employed at the airport.

To date, the airport has hosted centers for 74 airlines and 479 ticket office.

Featuring 156 commercial units, 67 international brands for restaurants, cafes and cafeterias.

It also has a free zone with 93 international brands.

The airport has 3 pharmacies (2 in the departures section and 1 in the arrivals section).

Due to the plan (0 waste) adopted by the Turkish government at the time of the construction of the airport, 20 million kilowatt hours were provided equivalent to 24% of the total expected drainage during 2019, and 70% of the wastewater was recycled and purified equivalent to 15,000 cubic meters per day, which was used in irrigation and cooling systems.

This year, 143 bridges have been opened.

A hotel has also been opened to accommodate travelers.

The airport has 44 mosques.
It should be noted, that Istanbul International Airport has opened its first phase with a capacity of 90 million passengers and is expected to reach 200-300 million passengers per year with the full opening of the airport in 2023.
