The sea taxi option was not suitable for many Istanbul residents, especially those who have a daily routine; they go out in the morning and board a bus or subway to get to where they work or where they want. So, the municipality closed it for a while. However, it was soon reactivated because of the urgent need for it.
Therefore, the locally produced sea taxi boat has re-launched to reduce congestion caused by the city's daily traffic, and reduce the time needed to reach the desired location.
It is designed and manufactured at Haliç Shipyard (the Golden Horn) and has a similar mechanism to ordinary taxis i.e, 24-hour.

Therefore, Istanbul Municipality launched a special application for these boats called: "İBB Deniz Taksi", where you can make an online reservation by choosing the port from which you will get on, and determining the destination and time. The Istanbul municipality has indicated that these boats are environmentally friendly, with some boats being electrified, and the rest consume no more than three litres of fuel per single nautical mile.
Furthermore, they are suitable for children's and disabled vehicles as there are allocated places for them. Also, they are comfortable and safe.
It intends to launch the so-called sea dolmuş, which will be similar to the ordinary Dolmuş (minibus), so the cost of boarding will be cheaper and will not be only for high-income people.
