Technology parks
They are areas dedicated to scientific research, technological development and the development of innovations and inventions. These regions are considered a forum for universities, scientific research institutions and industrial companies, with the aim of achieving the exchange of experiences and the development of scientific research organized academically, economically and socially.
Silicon Valley in California, USA, which was established during 1951, is considered the first technology park in the world. As a result of the successes achieved by Silicon Valley, the concept of technology parks gained worldwide popularity. These parks spread all over the world during the seventh decade of the twentieth century, until their number reached 1,000 technology parks, distributed all over the world.
In Turkey, the establishment of technology parks began during the eighties of the last century. During the 1990s, several TEKMER Technology Research Centers were established. With the beginning of 2001, the "technology parks" law was passed, and the number of these parks throughout Turkey has reached 84.
It includes more than 5,390 companies, including 290 companies with foreign capital, 37% of the total of these companies work in the field of software, 17% work in the field of computer technology and communications, 8% of them are in the field of electronics, and 6% of them are in the field of industry and equipment. In addition to the chemistry, automobile and defense industries, in addition to the food industries.
These areas include 1,038 Ar-Ge operational research centers, of which 287 are opening this year.
Since the establishment of these parks until the present time, 32,769 Ar-Ge scientific research projects have been completed, in addition to 9,106 projects in progress.
These facilities have provided more than 55,000 job opportunities, and employ 40,000 employees who are active in the field of scientific research. The volume of exports of these gardens to the most developed countries in the world, led by the United States of America, Germany, Britain and Japan, during the year 2018, amounted to 3.6 billion US dollars.
Istanbul tops the list of cities with the most technology parks, with 11 parks, followed by Ankara, the capital, with 9 parks, then Kocaeli with 5, and Izmir with 4 parks.
These areas contain 2,260 registered trademarks in addition to 1,053 pending registrations, and many global patents have been registered.
