Types of university housing in Turkey:
There are two types of university housing in Turkey:
1-The governmental university housing:
which is available in most of Turkish states. This housing belongs to the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and it has been built as close as possible to universities in order to make it easier for students, where there is no need to cross a long distance back and forth to get to university, and spending money on many transportations. This type of housing costs between 200 to 280 TRY which is a nominal fee, so it saves the student's money from high prices charged by the private apartment owners to rent them.
The services in this housing are excellent which comfort the student, like: laundry, lunches and breakfasts, fast and permanent internet and cleaning the rooms regularly. These may ease the alienation bitterness and being far away from their families.
If a foreigner wants to register, he must apply for a trade-off starting in October, that could be accepted or rejected. In case of acceptance, there would be a deposit about 300 TRY should be paid.
2-The private university housing:
not governmental rather it is a private property, but licensed by the Turkish government. This type of housing has more luxurious services than the governmental one, where there are individual, double and triple rooms with the same type of services, such as room cleaning, laundry and providing meals. In addition, a sport center, a telephone, TV and health services. Depending on the luxury services and the possibility to choose a room and its type, which leads to raise the monthly rental charges between 900 to 1700 TRY. It is easier for the foreigner student to apply for this housing than the governmental one, where the student must bring a document from the university that he belongs to in Turkey with some personal documentation. The amount of insurance depends on the type of the housing, starting from 400 TRY.
A tip when choosing a governmental housing should be considered is:
the student should pay attention to the type of the housing whether it is suitable and comfortable, because studying at university is a long-term and it may take many years. If the housing was not suitable or bad, it may affect on the student and his ability to study. Since he may have to change it during the term, it will take time and money which are limited for a student.
