Despite all the features that make the Istanbul Canal project and the surrounding area an attractive center for everyone from all over the world to include many touristic, medical and residential services, it poses many risks to Turkey as a whole, as the Istanbul Canal raises concerns about its use for military purposes, through the possibility of opening the door to the presence of American warships In the Black Sea, the construction of such a mega project could threaten the ecosystem, green spaces and archaeological areas around the canal, because the drilling process would disturb the cohesion of the soil and damage the groundwater reserves, which could lead to landslides and earthquakes.
The construction of the Istanbul Canal and the surrounding area is also a concern for the Turkish government because it is a burden on the country's economy, and only Turkish citizens will bear these burdens. It needs to invest about $700 billion in infrastructure and $400 billion in projects.
Some studies have also indicated that logging in forests in the north of the Black Sea coast will reduce oxygen levels in the water and increase salinity, affecting the balance of life in the water, and negatively affecting Istanbul's air.
