In the European portion of Istanbul, Bağcılar district is located, north of Bahçelievlar district, south of Başakşehir district, east of Küçükçekmece district, west of Esenler and Güngören districts. Previously, it belonged to the municipality of Bakırköy until 1992, where it seceded and had an independent municipality.
