Istanbul hosts the Conference on "Creative Cities" in 2021

The Turkish city of Istanbul will host the 15th Annual (UNESCO) Network for Creative Cities Network 2021
"UNESCO announced the selection of Istanbul to host the conference, following an online vote, with the participation of the 18 members of the organization's network of creative cities, which includes cities in 72 countries."
The organization said in a press statement issued on Thursday that the “Cities are the forts of the future, is main theme of the 2021 Network Conference, in reference to the concept of immunizing urban areas from future dangers [...] in order to maintain a balance between the environment, technology, economic activity and human needs and aspirations” .
During its annual events, the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities conference sees mayors, local decision makers and other stakeholders come to look at how to make human beings the focus of sustainable urban development in economic, environmental, social and cultural terms.
This year, the Italian city of Fabriano hosted, while the Brazilian city of Santos in 2020, the annual conferences aim to share best practices and ideas, identify new trends, discuss the challenges and opportunities they face, as well as build Links and partnerships between them.
The establishment of the UNESCO Program and Network for Creative Cities also aims to promote international cooperation among cities committed to investing in culture and creativity in order to advance and promote sustainable development.
The network encompasses seven creative areas: crafts and folk arts, media arts, design, filmmaking, Culinary art, literature and music.
Network cities are working to establish culture and creativity in their frameworks and development policies to advance issues such as social cohesion, employment, entrepreneurship and gender balance, in order to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
