Turkish coffee

There is a famous Turkish proverb (If you offer me a cup of coffee, this is a favor that I will keep for you for forty years

In Turkey, coffee is not just a delicious and hot drink preferred by the people, but rather carries in its atoms the culture of an ancient people and has its own rituals that have implications related even to the way it is served and eaten.

Turkish coffee ritual in Turkey

The Turks usually drink coffee after breakfast or before it, and it is served with a glass of water, and it is also served with a piece of chocolate or a small Turkish comfort, as in cafes or restaurants. And it has special methods for making it either on fire or wood with a copper bowl in which a large spoon of Turkish coffee and a spoon of sugar is placed in it if the person prefers it sweet in taste, and then the water is placed, which is the same amount of the cup and it must be cold from the tap if the water is drinkable or from bottled water and boil over the fire until the foam rises to the top and poured into a beautiful traditional Ottoman cup covered to keep it warm.

Turkey occupies an advanced position among the countries importing coffee in the world due to the large number of coffee consumption and manufacture, since the Ottomans brought coffee from Yemen in the sixteenth century, according to historical accounts, and they are preparing it in their own and distinctive way, as they mastered the method of preparation and presentation.

And drinking coffee is also a habit for Turks, just as English tea is at five o’clock, it is often drunk in the morning and noon, and in the Turkish language the word “alti coffee” means “breakfast”, and it means what is eaten before drinking coffee, and coffee is served according to customs and traditions upon proposing to a girl for marriage, feasts and occasions, official and unofficial visits, and is usually presented in government offices as an expression of hospitality and a tribute to Turkish coffee.

Turkish coffee has its own special aroma and charming taste. It is not just an ordinary coffee, but a coffee made with great passion from its lovers and world fame only, which has become the talk of every Arab or Western tongue. In the culture of the Turks, there is a custom that is funny to some and annoying to others, related to coffee, which is the “salty groom’s coffee”, which is a unique tradition in that culture and one of the most important habits that continue to this day. This custom is based on offering the groom, when he proposes to a girl, coffee with salt instead of sugar, and the groom should drink the coffee offered to him until the last lip, without showing any sign of aversion. Life means that he does not love his bride, but if he drinks it with pleasure, this indicates his love and patience for her after marriage.

Among the benefits of Turkish coffee
